π How To Make Homemade Blueberry and Peanut Butter Dog Treats
- Prep Time - 15 minutes
- Bake Time - 25 minutes
- Makes - approximately 35 biscuits, depends on size of cookie cutters
- Skill - Easy
π Ingredient Notes:

Blueberries - Adding the frozen blueberry juice from the bag to your dog treats is another option if you are using frozen blueberries. When using dried blueberries, you will need more liquid.
Oats - (I like to use either Rolled Oats or the Old Fashioned Oats).
Whole Wheat Flour - There are two types of whole wheat flour available: Regular Whole Wheat Flour and White Flour. Prices online are much higher than in stores.
Egg - as always, eggs bind everything together.
Peanut Butter - If you buy peanut butter for your dog, make sure it does not contain anything toxic. It is best to purchase dog-safe peanut butter. Always check the labels to be sure that the jar contains only peanuts.
Ground Cinnamon - ground cinnamon enhances the taste of any recipe.
Wheat germ oil - wheat germ oil provides a wide range of benefits for dogs that you can use to make your own dog treats. The benefits of wheat germ can be added to their dog treats if the dog doesn't react to gluten.
Whole wheat flour, wheat germ oil, or even wheat germ can be added. These healthy treats reduce your dog's risk of heart and cancer diseases thanks to their nutrients.
Honey - Dogs can eat honey in small amounts.
Olive Oil - Besides being safe, olive oil has numerous health benefits for dogs. Additionally, it improves the taste of your dog's food or treats and is good for your dog's skin and coat.

As your dog is used to hard biscuits, these treats can be given to him sometimes - but not too often, and be sure to check them before they are given.
Callie weighs somewhere around 75 pounds and she usually gets 2 or 3 of these a day. Ruby weighs 20 lbs and gets Β½ twice a day. Although they would both happily accept more!
𦴠Tips for Dog Treats
- Don't overwork or over roll your dough. The material will lose some stretch and become difficult to work with. (When you roll it out, it becomes like pizza dough and shrinks back.)
- Homemade dog treats would be a great birthday gift for dogs!
- Avoid artificial sweeteners like xylitol in peanut butter as they are toxic to dogs.
- You can use different shapes and sizes - these cookie cutters from Amazon come in a set of five, and I usually use the middle size, which is about 3 12 inches long.
π©π»βπ³ Frequently Asked Questions
What can you use in place of a rolling pin?
You can use a glass bottle instead of a rolling pin if you don't have one. Keep the outside clean and don't rough it up.
Can I bake these treats in other shapes?
Of course. You can shape the dough into any shape you like, including squares, rectangles, circles, hearts, or even Santa Claus or Christmas trees.
Can I make these treats with any other fruit?
Definitely! Substitute canned pumpkin or unsweetened applesauce for the blueberries. You won't need much water if you're using applesauce or pumpkin, so keep an eye on it! (You can also use sweet potatoes!)
What kind of berries can I use?
I have used frozen and dried berries, as well as fresh blueberries. When preparing dried blueberries, do not use sweetened blueberries or artificial sweeteners.
